Tabata Shibori Scarf by Mr Tabata, a shibori dyeing artisan from Kyoto.
Kyoto has preserved the art of shibori dyeing for over a thousand years.
This time-honoured craft continues to be passed down through generations, and with Kyoto’s uniquely refined techniques, they create works imbued with warmth, depth, and beauty - expressions that can only be achieved by the hands of skilled artisans.
Each piece is one of a kind, so variations in colour and pattern will naturally occur, adding to the uniqueness and charm of your item.
This pattern is a series of geometric hexagons inspired by hemp leaves. In Japan, hemp has traditionally strength, purity, and healthy growth. Because of these meanings, Asanoha (hemp leaf) pattern is often used for children's clothing, baby items, Buddhist decorations, and traditional crafts. It is also associated with protection from evil.
